A lot of you may have been wondering over the past few weeks what the recent impacts of COVID-19 are on the Ulman Foundation.
Like many other non-profit foundations, Ulman’s fundraising is suffering during this time. Given the fact that the 4K for Cancer is the largest annual fundraising event for Ulman, there has been a lot of necessary changes to ensure that the campaign continues. As sad as it is, Ulman has made the necessary decision to make 4K for Cancer virtual this year. My heart melts for the participants of the 2020 run and ride teams. The experiences that Team Boston and I were so fortunate to experience would never have been possible in a virtual method. Running by yourself, in different states from your teammates, and announcing what state you would hypothetically be in is not ideal for fundraising either. I can’t imagine what must be going through the minds of the 4K for Cancer participants right now.
On that note, the goals of the campaign have not changed. Communities are still in contact with the teams and fundraising continues. Daily dedications are still being honored too. In fact, multiple 4K alumni from over the years are coming together to support the foundation and the current 4K for Cancer teams. Although not ideal, the virtual changes have brought a lot of us closer together. More people than ever will be dedicating their miles this summer to help support those runners and bikers on the 2020 teams. Although the 2020 4K teams will not be crossing the country physically connecting communities this year, they will be making an impact virtually among their own communities and the communities they would have run through.
If you would like to help support the 4K for Cancer, the Ulman Foundation, and all that they do to support young adults with cancer, please go to the Ulman Foundation website to make a donation: https://ulmanfoundation.org/. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is appreciated especially during these unforeseen circumstances.
